Casablanca Hamstery

The honest side of breeding Roborovskis

I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with breeding Roborovski hamsters.

When I first started, I honestly questioned myself a lot. There were moments where I wanted to quit early on because I felt like I wasn’t doing things efficiently enough, or like maybe I wasn’t making progress fast enough. Robos are tiny, fast, sensitive, and not always easy to work with. They are not the kind of hamster that instantly proves your work to other people because tameness, confidence, and good temperament can take time.

There have been litters that made me excited, and there have also been moments that made me doubt everything. I’ve had to learn that breeding is not just about producing babies. It is about watching patterns, learning from each pairing, paying attention to temperament, health, size, mothering, and being honest about what is actually improving.

I think one of the hardest parts has been realizing that progress can feel slow. Sometimes you think you are going in the right direction, and then a litter humbles you. Sometimes a hamster you had high hopes for does not turn out how you expected. Sometimes you have to make decisions that are not as fun, because the goal is not just cute babies, it is better Roborovskis.

But I’m glad I didn’t quit.

I’ve learned so much in just one year. I’ve learned more about patience, selection, genetics, behavior, and the responsibility that comes with breeding. I’ve also learned that it is okay to have doubts and still keep going carefully.

Casablanca Hamstery is still growing, and I am still learning. My goal is not perfection overnight. My goal is to keep building better, healthier, calmer Roborovskis with intention.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along and supported this little hamstery. It means more than you know!
