UPDATE: French Cities and breeding plans laid out
As You know (if you follow this blog) My Roborovski hamsters recently had six pups, and I had already decided on a theme for the litter, but here are some names to go along with the theme:
The plans for this litter are half adoption, half selection. Though I am not worried about adopting them out.
Here are the French city names for the first litter, 6 to be exact!
★Lyon
★Toulouse
★Paris
★Marseille
★Rennes
★Nancy
DOB: 12/13/2025
The plan includes selecting the most tame offspring to add to my lines.
Docility in Phodopus Roborovski hamsters does not necessarily mean no hyperactivity, it means no hand shyness, no biting and or nipping, and no bolting when grabbed for.
From a scale of 1 to 10, I’d say most store hamsters are at a 2 to 3. A tamed store phodopus is usually at a 4, but half of the battle is nature, and the other half is nurture.
A 10 would be the ideal, the dream pet. A pet you can hold or call over, and will not shy away from your hand, but rather will stay still in your hand.
Phodopus Roborovski is not there yet as a species because it has not been bred for it. I am doing that job now out of my love for the species, I do not want a look only pet, I want a pet I can actually handle, and I want others to have that kind of pet, too. Similar to a well bred Syrian or Campbell.
I have been in contact with a couple of other breeders, such as Milkbun hamstery, in order to get to the goal of breeding tame robo lines. She has done a phenomenal job so far doing so as her lines are exceptionally tame.
